On Sunday 8 July, Wellspring Methodist Church welcomed special guests, Bruce and Janine Dyer, to its “Revive” service.  Earlier a large number of people enjoyed a barbecue, games, face painting and music.

This was followed by a modern worship service, led by Wellspring’s own Praise Band, One Faith.  Following a children’s slot by Wellspring’s Youth Worker, Shane Wright, Bruce and Janine were introduced to everyone.

Janine, who is an award-winning gospel singer, sang a very powerful version of “Amazing Grace”.  Janine was a singer with the group, Raymond and Co, who were known as Britain’s No. 1 gospel group.

Bruce, who was a professional footballer, played as a striker from 1993 until 2008, joining several teams including Stoke City, Watford, Crystal Palace, Barnsley and York City.  He spoke about his football career and his Christian faith.

Bruce and Janine founded the charity, “Love Life U.K., in 2008 which seeks to help young people in disadvantaged areas by offering alternative activities to using drugs and alcohol.  The charity also has an outreach to prisoners and ex-prisoners, giving support by hosting Bible studies, concerts, football and workshops.

Bruce included DVDs of his footballing career and of the work in prisons on behalf of the charity.  A retiring collection of £250 was raised for Love Life U.K.

It was a very inspiring evening, one of the best “Revive” evenings ever.
