Programme of Events 2012 at Englesea Brook Chapel & Museum

A new Director, new Ideas, new Plans: Why not come along and meet Jill, Margaret and the volunteers.  We will be delighted to share our treasures with you and to welcome you onto the team if you have even a few hours to spare.


Invitations and dates for your diaries throughout 2012

Calling all Volunteers - and those interested in becoming volunteers - here are two invitations you cannot afford to miss!

Saturday 17 March (10.30 - 12.30) you are invited to join a working party - Spring Cleaning or Gardening - to get the museum ready for the new season 

Saturday 31 March (10.30 - 12.30) Training for Stewards. If you are a steward already, are thinking about being one or just interested in finding

out more, then this is for you. Come along and find out about any changes and learn more about the stories behind the objects before the start of the new season.

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers so do come along. You will be sure of a warm welcome and tea, coffee and biscuits are always provided.

Thursday 19 April (10.30 - 12.30) Coffee Morning - Come along and share tea/coffee and a chat. Bring your friends along and encourage them to be volunteers too.


Heritage Services:

Sunday 8 April (9.30 am): Easter morning service led by Rev. Stephen Hatcher

Sunday 27 May (2.30): Open Air service at Mow Cop

Sunday 24 June (2.30): Celebrate the Olympics! Rev. Malcolm Lorimer will reveal the links between Primitive Methodists and Sport

Sunday 23 September (2.30): Theme to be decided

Sunday 28 October (2.30): Theme to be decided

Sunday 9 December 2.30): Victorian Christmas service.


Lent and Advent Discussion/Bible Study Group:

Monday 27 February - 26 March, 12.30-2.30. Prisoners of Conscience. Join us for a bread and soup lunch in 1 Chapel Cottage, followed by a Lent study.

You are invited to come along to as many or as few of these five studies as you can. All welcome.


Wednesdays, 28 November - 19 December, 12.30–2.30).  Burning and Shining Lights.  Join us for a bread and soup lunch in 1, Chapel Cottage followed by an Advent study.  You are invited to come along to as many or as few of the four studies as you can.  All welcome.


Children's Activities:

Friday 6 April (10.00 - 12.00, 2.00 - 4.00) Make your own Easter Garden.

Monday 9 April (10.00-12.00, 2.00-4.00) Easter Bank Holiday Fun!  A range of activities for children of all ages.


Special Events:

Saturday 19 May "Museums at Night" by popular demand will feature a "Bats Evening".

Saturday 7 July (2.30-4.00): Printing: see the printing press at work and make your own prints.  Cost: £2.00 per child: £5.00 family ticket: Adults free!

Saturday 14 July (2.30 – 4.00): Magic Lantern: discover the world of magic lanterns and try putting on your own show. Cost: £2.00 per child: £5.00 family ticket: Adults free! 

Saturday 21 July (2.30-4.00): Pottery: a chance to see some of the fascinating pottery in the museum collection and have a go at decorating your own plate. Cost: £2.00 per child: £5.00 family ticket: Adults free! 

Saturday 28 July (2.30-4.00): Banners: discover the stories behind some of the banners and design your own. Cost: £2.00 per child: £5.00 family ticket: Adults free!  


Study Day:

Saturday 9 June (10.30-4.00): My Ancestor was a Primitive Methodist. Find out about sources for tracing your family history and discover some surprising stories!  Cost: £15.00 (including tea, coffee and biscuits). Please bring a packed lunch. Places are limited, so booking is essential.


Book Sales:

February 11-16 (excluding Sunday).  Quinton Methodist Church, Ridgeway Avenue, Birmingham.  B62 9AU.  Open from 10am until 5pm each day with late opening on Thursday until 8pm.

April 9-12.  Nantwich Methodist Church.  Open from10.00 until 4.00 Bank Holiday Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and 10.00 until 2.00 on Thursday.
